What is the difference between gs and wg

This is because the President lacks the authority to adjust WG salaries as he has with the GS system. This has meant that for WG employees to recognize a yearly pay adjustment equal to that of the GS system, it requires a separate act of Congress. And in this alarmingly anti-federal employee environment that plagues the th Congress, earning equitable pay raises has been less than automatic.

While advocates were successful in securing equitable pay adjustments out of the gate for , the annual fight to apply equitable pay adjustments for both WG and GS employees highlights a highly imperfect compensation system. As it currently stands, there are situations across the country where GS employees, generally on the outskirts of major metropolitan areas, are earning locality pay associated with regional metropolitan centers.

Meanwhile, because WG employees derive pay adjustments from the separate Federal Wage System Wage Area, which are often smaller in size than GS locality boundaries, blue-collar employees receive a far inferior rate of pay as compared to GS employees at the same installation. In short, GS workers in these locations are getting the high pay associated with a big city like Washington, DC or San Francisco, but the WG workers are not getting the same benefit. This discrepancy is unfair and it works almost exclusively to the detriment of the WG employee.

I say approximate because many GS pay steps overlap into the next higher one - GS step 10 make more than a GS step one, for example. Yes marty, and no I am not treated as if I were in the Marines. Not at all. I have a new director in my organization who is wonderful. My director is a Marine, as there is no such thing as a "former Marine". Everyone is leary of new management. I'm lucky, I got a great one. My DH who has long hair works for the tenant command and is a shop steward and one of many district delagates.

His union is very strong compared to the Marine side of the Point. Not taking any chances that it could "come back". But the rest of us, we are without representation.

Although, I truly believe it's who you work for. My director is truly open door and I have learned much since he has been here. I work with many guys who have long hair and it's not an issue here.

IOW, basically useless and not well advertised. Thanks for the responses. That is good to know about the retirement. I don't have to worry about overtime as we are never offered it. Just credit time. Occasionally we get comp time. Is there any other benefit to being GS v WG?

I've only worked WG. We only have the one GS Position. You will find a whole new world entering the GS vice the WG. I left the WG world in after 10 years as a WG Depends on the locality, but most of the time a WG step 5 would be the equivalent salary of a GS-7 step 9 or Other career ladders go two grades up every year until the working level is met example: GS-7 to GS Normally an career ladder increase occurs every year until target level is met.

To figure the increase on the pay scale, round up to the closest pay on the next grade, then go up two steps. Easy enough? As far as locality pay counting toward your high three, it is the same for GS as it is for WG, the locality pay counts towards your high three.

I've managed to claw my way up to a GS level so if you keep your focus and do your job you can make it way above what you ever thought you'd do. Always keep your resume current and attached to positions you are interested in or you might want. NEVER disqualify yourself from a position. Instead apply for the position and let them disqualify you. Included are positions concerned with one or more aspects of supply activities from initial planning, including requirements analysis and determination, through acquisition, cataloging, storage, distribution, utilization to ultimate issue for consumption or disposal.

The 36 occupational families range from WG to WG Each occupational family has its own group number and title which makes it distinctive from every other family grouping. The following is a list of the Wage Grade families.
